So what are your plans??

Tent camping at the beach for 3 days.

Put out a couple of brush fires, treat 3-4 bee stings, one fall from a cliff, two cardiac calls. Probably cut someone out of a wrecked car in the evening. And if all goes as expected, one late night search for a missing person.

I'll settle for eating crabs and oysters on my deck while the pager doesn't go off, but that's statistically unlikely :-(

Anything but the usual patriotic stuff and fireworks. But I'll probably find something to do, take a hike or something. I mean I'll take the day off they give us :) (and I'm not scheduled to work or anything then, someone else is handling "work emergencies" then, so I probably will have the day off free and clear).

Just another day to work on the property for us. And if it's been dry........hoping no one causes our woods to burn down.
DH has a 4 day weekend, which he really is looking forward to......even if it is working in the yard. We'll grill out and maybe watch a movie or 2.
Should be fun!

(DD is driving to Florida with a couple friends.........so keep her in your thoughts and prayers......hahaha).

I'm taking a two week July 4th break. This week we're sitting by the pool with the grandkids and doing a little gardening when the mood strikes. Next week we're riding the motorcycle into Virginia, getting onto the Blue Ridge Parkway (http://www.blueridgeparkway.org/)and riding leisurely down to the Deals Gap, North Carolina area. From there, we'll ride the Tail of the Dragon (http://tailofthedragon.com/dragon.html) again as well as the Cherohala Skyway (http://www.cherohala.org/). We'll probably make about 5 days of it.

That sounds like fun Alan! I'll wish good weather for you!

Thanks Cathy, I thought of you this afternoon as I heard about a tornado outside Indy. Hope it was well away from you.

Yes Alan......it wasn't near me, but DH and all his employees had to go into the lower hallways at his building in Indy. Fortunately, the tornado had weakened by the time it got to their area. Thanks for asking!

No injuries but some damage to a subdivision on the west side. The storm weakened and moved northeast. Downtown our siren went off twice but the sky was clear and almost sunny. Have to admit I dont move unless I see a darkening or wind outside. The heat from all the downtown concrete keeps most wind storms with tornado activity going around north or south of
Indianapolis downtown.

A simple day at home, pick up the rental car at some point and then we'll watch fireworks from the scenic overlook just up the cliff drive from our house. Then to bed, we'll leave early the 5th for NM.

Attending the free community picnic and concert in the park followed by fireworks. Traditional, small town living.

Going to my brother's annual 4th of July cook-out, for which I'll make potato salad, pasta salad and chocolate chip cookies. Will see many extended family members; last year 48 of the cousins, their spouses and kids showed up.

Then return home before dark to walk through the cemetery* across the street from my house to get to the best spot in town to watch the fireworks. Once they are over, escort some of the people who forgot to bring flashlights back across the cemetery, biting my tongue to keep from saying, "If you are afraid of cemeteries, why did you enter one at dusk with no flashlight? And please stop screaming at the footsteps of the other people around you!"

*This part of the cemetery was founded in the 1730s. No active burials. It is maintained by the city as a sort of park. People jog there, walk their dogs, push their babies in strollers. We are not being disrespectful. The place where we sit to watch fireworks is a hill that has no graves on it, just a statue at the top.

Work for a bit (equipment maintence) and then do the family gathering thing (mandatory). I have "three" days off technically (maintenece should take an hour and I volunteered because so much easier to do when no one around), and want to play with the old VW.

I will be working on some online marketing I am doing to pull in some money and I will also be planting okra and sunflowers that weekend. I'm kind of excited as the wind flow is about to change - which means nothing to those who don't live in the Southwest - but the monsoon is about to start next Wednesday and Thursday with mugginess and an eventual chance of rain and the summer weather drama I so love about living in the Southwest. This state sure needs rain BAD too, will be so hoping for a good monsoon this year. Rob

We are lucky in that our front yard, 1/2-mile outside of our very small town, is a perfect vantage point from which to see the annual fireworks display. So as is traditional, we will have a few friends over, I'll make a snackie or two, there will be chilled beer involved, a great fireworks show enjoyed, and everyone will be home by 11.

Low key and perfect.

Lin: That sounds perfect!
MY DH is working 10 -3, so we don't have any real plans. I'm actually a big fan of no real plans! Maybe light some sparklers in the yard if the weather is good. Would like to have some mojitos too; we haven't made them yet this year.

My mom is coming to visit for the week. I'm sure there will be some gardening, some grilling, and some sitting on the deck enjoying the view happening on the 4th. If we're lucky, we'll be able to see some of the fireworks from the house so no need to go anywhere. The fireworks always make our dogs crazy so it's better that we are at home with them.

We used to be able to watch the local fireworks from my deck, but they moved slightly and the bushes have grown some, so now you can only see flashes of light and hear the sounds of ordnance. I've taken to going to bed early.

I may also volunteer if the opportunity arises (going to bed early sounds good as well, but it's usually too noisy as everyone is setting off their own fireworks and firecrackers illegally well into the night). Yea I'm really not much for holidays.

I am spending the day and the night at home. Dog goes nuts at all the fireworks I can see from my house, as well as the mega-amounts of firecrackers that go off in my Asian 'neighborhood. Plus I hate crowds and heat - both of which are abundant right now in SoCal. It's nice to stay home on holidays .... with lots of junk food and some bad sci-fi movies to catch up on.

Now who's gloating :-)! Oh never mind me, I'm just jealous. Have fun and enjoy the hurricane weather - which may have led you to cancel your plans. Hope that's not the case.

So we wound up just chillin' at home, except for a trip to the dog park. Beautiful day, even though it's cloudy (actually the sun just broke through), because it's nice and cool and breezy.

We're having a picnic-y dinner of hot dogs (DH, not me) and beans (me) and corn and watermelon and pickles and home-made potato salad. Oh, and green salad, with a decent contribution from my salad garden.

Hope that's not the case.Actually, we did change the plans. We didn't make it to the Dragon or the Cherohala Skyway, choosing instead to end the week white water rafting in S/E Kentucky. Just got home this afternoon and I'm exhausted!

This forth of July has been so much better than prior ones for the past decade or so. This year I had the energy to cook - I made quinoa and black bean chili, a recipe I've been wanting to try for some time. I also planted some flowers and dug up a few plants in my backyard that didn't take well and put in some succulents. And last night - if you read my first post I brought this up - we had our first dust storm of the monsoon this year and also our first rain. Nice to have the night cool down from what summer nights are like here! Rob
