I decided against the cruise this time. But I took two weeks off mid-to-late May. I am very seriously considering going to Tel Aviv, Israel. I am still considering other places, but I will be making my final choice and buying plane tickets Monday.

I am hoping to enjoy some OBL, some beaches, some healthy ethnic foods, and relaxation.

So an atheist goes to the promised land........>8):laff:

Ok so what is OBL (out of body luxury?). Are you going their to anti prosthelytize? Maybe on the Gaza strip to start peace by giving them both a target?
This makes me think of that old joke, religion and atheism are two sides of the same coin. One believes in heads, the other tails.

It would not be a place I would have picked but I look forward to hearing about your experience.

Tell us more about this choice.
Most of our family has been for weddings but we couldn't swing it. DH is Jewish so a lot of the family goes to the mother land for big events. I would of figured you more for Asia like Vietnam. Friends have gone and found it stunning.

My son spent two weeks in Vietnam last summer and loved it.

I have never traveled solo. If all goes well, this could be quite rewarding.

Jordan next? My brother went there and liked it but then again he is an archaeology buff.

I went to Jordan with a friend whose father was a British diplomat serving in Jordan. The trip of my lifetime was to visit Petra 'The rose Red city, half as old as time'.

Well, I am leaving for Israel in a few hours. Hopefully everything is seamless and relatively easy.

I'm sure it will go well, and you will find t all very interesting.

We are taking a trip in Aigust outside of our usual Scotland-Switzerland rotation. While DH will go to Switerland for a family reunion, he's then meeting me in Prague. Then we are gong to Transylvania.

I just got back from Israel late last night. While I was over there I also went to Palestine and Jordan.

Very eye-opening experience to say the least...

Can't wait to hear more after you get over your jet lag! Welcome back!

My atheism was profoundly deepened by my time in the Middle East.

But I will say I could live very happily in Israel, even though it is a Jewish state. Israelis are very free -- they have gay pride parades, women wear string bikinis, people like to go out dancing at all hours, lots of bike paths, socialist healthcare, and I even saw some protests.

Seems to be a free and open society.

But Jordan and Palestine were depressing for several reasons, though Jordan was otherworldly in the landscape and beautifully so. Palestine was just depressing.

My views on Israel and Palestine have done almost a 180 after actually going there. My views on Islamic Theocracies are deepened now after going to the Middle East.

Wait you didn't stand there and try to explain there is no god or how their beliefs are wrong, or help DJT cause middle east peace?

Oh, I explained to everyone in Israel, Palestine, and Jordan how religion is irrational and how secular humanism is a better worldview. I went on and on and on about it too. I think the ripple effect of my monologues will definitely be peace and harmony throughout the Middle East within 5 years.

On my way to Israel their security agents put me through the ringer. I thought I was more mentally tough than I am because the interrogation actually rattled me just a little.

Very bearded, medium complexion. Why?

My son is very bearded and he frequently gets profiled and chosen for a "random screening" at TSA in this country.
