The Roomba batteries only seem to last so long. I've replaced them by using generic versions such as this one from Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/iRobot-Advanced-System-Battery-80501/dp/B000VPR8TU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1309970233&sr=8-1) for $30 and the battery worked fine. You can also buy a "real" replacement battery from iRobot for $70 (http://store.irobot.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=battery&origkw=battery&sr=1).

How long have you had your Roomba? Mine is 1 1/2 years old and I have noticed it getting "tired" easier! I love it and would hate to have to replace the battery already.

I love the roomba too. I've had my Roomba since 2008. I think the batteries only last about 18 months. I have also encountered other issues and I've been able to find fixes from advice provided on robotreviews.com (http://www.robotreviews.com/chat/viewforum.php?f=1).

How do you like the Roomba? I've only seen them in the advertisements but have been tempted to get one. Although, the time when I'm supposed to be working at going off-grid is probably not the best time to be shopping for a Roomba.

We used our roomba pretty consistently for about a year. The last 6 months it's sat unused in the dock. The biggest impediment to its use, for us at least, is that you have to get all the extraneous stuff up off the floor. Looking around my office there are a couple pair of shoes, a stack of library books, the cord for a fan, etc. Couple that with the fact that cat hair gets tangled up on the brushes to the point that about 1/2 way through a cleaning session she stops with error 2 ("please remove and clean roombas brushes") and I finally came to the conclusion that it was basically just as easy to spend 10 minutes pushing the real vacuum around every weekend as it was to spend the time preparing for her work/dealing with her mid-work and I am a lot less frustrated. Other people's mileage may differ depending on their circumstances.

In my opinion roomba is a lot like the automatic cat litterbox we once had. Great in theory, but just not good enough for the actual task at hand.
