Amongst so much bad advertising, just occasionally you come across something which is so well done that you want to watch it again and again, and just admire the creativity.

Here is one such advert that I saw today, linked from (of all places!) The Elephant website, which mostly covers yoga and Buddhism and similar topics. It's for a new shopping mall in London, attached to the 2012 Olympics faciltities, and it shows 100 years of British fashion in 100 seconds:

Love that! The history of fashion is so fascinating to me. Thanks for sharing it--my historical closet kicked in at about 50 seconds.... (the Brits RULED fashion when I came of age--Mary Quant, Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton.... so much fun to relive it all).

It's not an original idea. Back in 2008 there was a 122 second advert on TV, celebrating 122 years of Hovis bread. This one features a young boy who has been sent to the bakery to buy a loaf, and it jumps forward in big steps - start in 1886, then we see a Titanic poster, then a Suffragist march, troops leaving in 1914, then it's the Blitz, a Coronation street party, then all of a sudden it's the '60s, then we see the coal miners' strike in 1983, the Millenium celebrations, and he arrives home in 2008. This is more than just pure nostalgia, and linking bread to key events in recent history is quite clever:

Wonderful addition to the other video, Kevin. Thanks for that.

I really liked the bread one. Of course, while I was there, I had to look at other commercials. :)

Those were great. Fantastic editing in the dance one.

It reminds me of a pretty silly History of Dance sketch done by French & Saunders. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y59gdwyLvmw

I like the commercials that show old home-movie clips. I think there was once recently for a car company, with kids riding around in old pedal cars.

Thanks pony mom, those were the days... Dawn French continues to have a successful TV career, but you don't hear much of Jennifer Saunders these days. I'm surprised their show made it across the pond.
