View Full Version : Amazon becoming a media content company

Just got an email from Amazon about their new book lending feature for Amazon Prime members. If you have Prime, you can borrow up to one book a month free of charge -- the available books include NYT best sellers. Not enough to keep up with my reading habits, but might be worth it as an add on -- some of the books I want to get from the library have very long hold lists, and this would be a way to get around that for newer titles. Noticed that they also offer video streaming to Prime members.

This seems like a really interesting development -- like they are shifting toward being a content provider more than a retail company. Interesting to think of this and their move into publishing and the ways that might affect our lives in the future, so just thought I'd mention it.

I recently discovered the joys of their free video streaming for Prime members, and have begun working my way through X-Files episodes from the pilot on, which should keep me entertained for some time to come.

Amazon has Overdrive, the company that provides e-content to public libraries, by the balls. It's just one step from your library card to Amazon, no need for the intermediary library. Almost.

Oh yeah? My library may ban me, as I just lost one of their books.http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-confused005.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php) I may have "housekeepered" it, as my mother would say.
