I've often wondered what those of us living in cities would do if something happened to the current food delivery chain. This article highlights five cities - including Detroit - that are going back to their farming roots, or implementing urban gardening. Encouraging!

Very cool! I saw a movie about Cuba and the urban farming they are doing is incredible.

Thank you for posting about this. In the section on the success in Havana, they mention an improvement of yieled of 1.5 kilograms per square meter in 1994 to 25.8 kilograms per square meter in 2001.

That's about 240 kilograms or 530 pounds of food per 100 square feet. That amount is more than double what Rosalind Creasy got in the summer season in her 100 square foot garden bed challenge project.
