If she's neglecting her own life, or staying in a bad relationship I wouldn't put the blame on a small child.

^ I wouldn't say I was blaming the child. It's more the overall situation that concerns me.

I do have experience with step children which is similar. You really can't be in a relationship with someone who has children and not accept and love the children. It's a package deal. I would be much more concerned about this guy cheating when he drinks. Unless he stops drinking that behavoir is likely to continue. This should be a major red flag to your friend. Why waste your life energy on a cheater and a relationship based on lies?
