View Full Version : Hanging a heavy picture in drywall.

This big picture I have is fairly heavy (maybe 15#??). Where I want it doesn't have any studs to use.
The picture has a heavy-duty wire on it. I was going to put just one point for it to hang from, but now realize I need to hang the wire up on 2 points.
Any suggestions? I'm thinking of one of those metal toggle anchors. I'm probably over-doing things, but I just don't want to chance ruining the drywall from it pulling out.
The thing I like about the toggles is that if you want to move the picture, you take the screw out of the toggle, and the toggle falls behind the wall......rather than maybe making the hole even bigger by trying to pull it out.

I know there are alot of anchors to choose from. Any suggestions as to which one would do the least damage to the wall, yet hold the heavy picture well?
Thanks.

CathyA I always used these for hanging pictures and never had a problem. They have a 20 lb. one and a 60 lb one. http://www.quinbyhardware.com/Products/SKU/2023729/ONE-STEP-PICTURE-HANGER-20LB/HARDWARE/HANGING-HARDWARE/IMPEX-SYSTEM-GROUP-INC

Now that we have plaster I make DH hang everything :~)

Thanks decemberlov........but are those for using in studs, or drywall? They don't seem like they'd hold well in drywall.

I've always used them in drywall and never had a problem...however now that I'm looking I can't find anywhere where they specify drywall or plaster.
If it concerns you, these ones have worked well for me and the description on these ones does say for drywall: http://findnsave.azcentral.com/Product/5517587/OOK-ReadyNail-30-LB-Picture-Hook-50584

I'm definitely going to remember this next time I have something heavy to hang. Thanks Gardenarian!

I'm thinking I'm doing over-kill with my picture. Decemberlov.......Those hangers in the link you posted (which is a great link!), are the ones that the Gallery sent home with the picture. Maybe that's all I need?
Maybe I'll try those and keep my eye on it daily and make sure its not giving way.
Gardenarian.....thanks for that link. I think I don't need anything quite that substantial.......but if I ever want to change the way my bedroom mirror is attached, that's a good way. I think it has some French name to it. Right now, my bedroom mirror is attached right to the dresser......but I think I'd like it mounted on the wall.
