Dear little son jeans with ripped out knees. I have an old denim skirt that I could use to patch them but I have NO clue. I need a simple fix. Any suggestions?

These are super cute if you have room to cut out a star or maybe a heart.

My daughter was bringing my grandson's holey-kneed jeans to me for repair SO often. He was just going thru knees like crazy, even new-ish jeans weren't lasting. So she finally went to Sears and bought Toughskins. Lasted much longer.

Now he's grown out of that jeans destruction phase, thankfully. I patched similar to the photo above, just following the tear.

Easy Patch Repair 101.

When patching jeans, I like actual sewn-on patches. Iron-on patches, which I don't personally care for, eventually pull-free/away leaving a patch with rolled edges.

I like using funky patterned fabric when mending jeans. You can cut the pattern/shape to whatever you desire (heart, star, circle, flower-power, etc). I LOVE flower-power!

Then overlay and stitch. Stitching, can be done a few different ways depending on the affect you're looking for. Zigzag stitch, straight running stitch, etc.

Have fun with it!

P.S. You can go advanced with this, by turning the jeans inside-out, etc. Hopefully you're looking for a quick, simple, frugal fix!

Here's how I patch DD's pants when they have holes in the knees:
- cut out a larger-than-the-hole patch of a heavy fabric (like some old jeans).
- sew it around the edges of the patch, on the inside of the pants (sewing a larger patch on because usually there's some nearly-worn-out fabric near the hole anyway). I can usually do this on the machine.
- then, I do the decorative patch. Ideally this fabric should be heavier as well but sometimes I just use some calico, if that's all I have. I'll cut a shape (heart, moon, flower, star, dinosaur, whatever - look for patterns online that you can print and then use to cut out the patch) and then hand-applique it directly over the hole.

Even if I have to sew the whole thing by hand, it only takes about an hour from start to finish.

My most ambitious jean patch ever. Blown-out rear end of my oldest son's favorite jeans. So glad I have my grandmother's zig-zag sewing machine.
