My wife is using a blood sugar meter after several years of non-use at her doctor's instruction. Since the meter has been sitting, I wanted to check it for accuracy, but am having trouble finding the glucose control solution. On the other hand, test strips seem to be available everywhere.

Finally ordered from Amazon.com after trying three drugstores and a medical supply store. I asked the manager of the medical supply store, who I've worked with for things for my mother in the past, and he said that since insurance doesn't pay for it, nobody buys it.

Is this really right, and doesn't it seem careless to rely on unchecked metersrrrrr?

Yes, its important to be sure your machine is giving correct readings. Call the company who put out the meter you have. They will be able to answer all your questions and probably send you some solution.

Cathy, that's what I thought--but perhaps that's from being an engineer.

It seems really shortsighted that people would not spend $10-$15 once and a while to check the machine.
