I don't think anyone mentioned this but we do shut off rooms so we don't have to heat them, and it does make a difference.
A couple of years ago we bought an organic potato sampler from Fedco here in Maine and planted them and had an amazing crop of potatoes. DH wrapped them in newspaper and put them in 5 gallon buckets...
