Homemade Healing Salves and Lotion Bars

This is something I have been learning and experimenting with for the last three years.

I wondered if there is anyone else here who is interested in using essential oils and healing herbs?

I use essential oils in my homemade products, none of which are medicinal. astringent lotion - which I guess could substitute for an antiseptic, it's at least 30% alcohol plus tea tree, clove and orange -also deodorant, toothpaste, and mouthwash.

Do you go to Wellness Mama for recipes? Lots of info there.

What sort of medicinal things do you make, Wren?

    There's a reason I picked this username.
. Most of my herb use is culinary, but I do use herbs for simple home remedies to manage low grade issues (colds, congestion...).

I used the term medicinal because many essential oils have healing properties, such as antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antirheumatic, etc.; some, such as tea tree, have multiple properties.

I've been making salves, lip balm, and lotion bars, for use on dry or inflamed skin, sore muscles, athletes' foot, etc. They are very simple to make from natural ingredients, and the best part is that they work! I also like the thought that this is a very old tradition, and is something that people can make for themselves, no factory required.

Salve is made with a carrier oil, such as olive oil or coconut oil, some nut butter such as shea or cocoa butter, essential oil, and grated beeswax. I will share specific recipes if anyone is interested.

Mountain Rose Blog has a lot of information in their archive. I haven't seen Wellness Mama. There are a lot of good books on the topic, as well as websites.

Plants are amazing, aren't they! What herbs do you use?
