I just made an appointment with a new dermatologist and asked the person who called me back if she could tell me how much my initial office visit would be and I guess I totally flummoxed her. She said something like, "why would you want to know that?" Umm, yes, I do have insurance, but I have a high deductible. However, the visit will get paid out of Wellness Account from work, but still, I have a right to know, don't I? I want to know how much money I am using up! She had to put me on hold and get the info just to tell me how much an office visit is. What if I had no insurance? I'd certainly have the right to shop around. I pretty much hate the medical-industrial complex and try to avoid it as much as possible, but sometimes things just need to be taken care of.
