Our OneMaryland book this year is All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely Blurb from the back " Rashad and Quinn - one black, one white, both American- face the unspeakable truth that racism and prejudice didn't die after the civil rights movement. There's a future at stake, a future where no one else will have to be absent (from school, the world ) because of police brutality. They just have to risk everything to change the world. Cuz that's how it can end. "

It took a chapter or two for me to get in the rhythm of the narrative, each boy speaking in turn. Black boy Rashad beaten by cop who is the brother of the best friend of Quinn the white basketball star. How it affects each boy and the school they both attend is a sad narrative. It is a story that makes one think.
