    Nutritional yeast

My dd is experimenting with veganism and said nutritional yeast was a good source of protein. Somehow I had never tried it before. It's quite inexpensive; we get the organic flaky kind in bulk from our co-op.

She likes it on pasta and popcorn, and shakes it on stir-fries.

Do you find benefits from using nutritional yeast? How do you use it?

I know my vegan friends use it as a cheese substitute as it has a similar taste to Parmesan when sprinkled on top of pasta dishes, pizza etc. I have to admit I wasn't a huge fan when I tried it but I can see it as a useful alternative source of protein.

A group of us are discussing nutrition so this thread is timely. I had forgotten about nutritional yeast so appreciated the review of info. I did try one type but didn't like the taste so will try another when I go to the Bulk Barn later today for my supply of oatmeal.
Do you have a particular manufacture that you prefer?

I always liked it on spaghetti with marinara sauce. I'd still be happy to enjoy a plate of that from time to time!

I use it to make sauces for vegetarian bowl recipes. Coincidentally, tonight we had a bowl made of black beans, brown rice, diced sweet potatos, shredded cabbage, green onions, avocados and some other raw veggies. The sauce is made with 1/2 cup of nutr yeast mixed with water, tahini, a pinch of oil, maple syrup, ginger, garlic and lime juice. Lots of recipes on the internet. Our pets like it too sprinkled on their food.
