    Burns' Night

Today is the celebration for our national Bard, Robert Burns.

Tonight I'm hosting a Supper for friends, with Cock a leekie soup, Haggis with mashed, creamed Swede (rutubaga) and potatoes, with a nip of whisky and then cranachan for pudding, sadly made with frozen raspberries!

Apart from not piping in the haggis, all other traditions will be followed!

    Slainte!

Had to check out a recipe for cranachan. Sounds delightful http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/8...anachan-trifle

I am hosting a luncheon for friends who are solo for whatever reason so this trifle in some form will be the dessert. Thank you!
I have tried haggis but not a great fan.
Thanks for sharing parts of your world that add such enjoyment to mine.

Happy Burns' night from St Louis!

edited to add:there was an active Robert Burns Society here in my city a few decades ago. This stautue was left behind on a college campus by that group. I remember seeing an old photo of their clubhouse here, a ramshackle old building. I imagine these guys got togehter and drank Scotch while a few recited Burns' works in faux brogues. A way to escape women and children.

Cranachan is delicious, as is Tipsy Laird, the Scottish version of an English trifle.

    Thanks for the good wishes.

We havent been to a Burns' night in years but at one time we attended one annually.

There are three major celebrations in St. Louis, two of them at bars, and one of them hosted by the Scottish St. Andrews' Society.

You have to love a country that celebrates its poets--felicitations!
Cranachan sounds delicious...Mascarpone. Double cream Berries, Crushed buttered nuts. I can work with this.

No nuts in my traditional recipe, cream, crowdie, toasted pinhead oats, rasps and Drambuie. Nectar!

    Been there!

Yes, monuments to writers and poets is awesome--can you imagine if we replaced the corporate brands on stadiums and other buildings with the names of poets?

How about instead of CitiField, we could have FrostField?

Or instead of Continental Arena, we could have Mary Oliver Arena? Or Langston Hughes Convention Center?
