I currently have at the house several broadband-ish Internet connections, and one much slower one:

    - A LTE-based solution our local power cooperative offers. It's cheap-ish, gets me about 50mbps

    - A microwave link to a local small ISP, also cheap-ish, I get 20-50mbps

    - My own microwave link that runs quite some distance to another fellow's place. Slow speed. Free.

    No cable internet at all.

Well, after getting your very helpful input, I phoned the provider and queried the speed, equipment, costs and benefits. It turns out that my internet costs would rise somewhat about $5/mth, extra phones would not ring, and my long-distance right now is only 3.5 cents/min throughout NA. The cost savings are so low as I have a basic phone service, modest cellphone plan and love my unlimited internet currently at 6Mbps. The only important benefit that I would gain is call display. It is pricey through Bell. I am deciding to stay with what I have right now and in the future, I will probably go with cellphone wireless service alone as others have done.
As Cicero said, “Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others.”
