    Big win at flower show!

This is sort of a "Gardening" post since I grew the lily flowers in the photo.

I won "Best in Show" of 24 designs at our recent garden club flower show with the design pictured. It is not false modesty when i say that I didnt LIKE this design and while it met technical requirements, there were better designs in the show. The class was "illuminary type" where we used some kind of lighting. Frankly, I think the judges were swayed by my gimmicky lighted balls. But whatever, I will take this win.

Turn you head to see it upright, the ribbons are at the bottom.

Haha it IS lit! The lighted balls were kinda subtle in that bright light. It looked better when I was putting it togehter in my living room which is fairly dark.

Very dramatic! Innovative design. What is the central blade made from as it really caught my attention?

That is variagted flax, a tropical plant. I buy individual leaves for $1 at the whoesale floral place.

But something similar that provides line and varigated color is sansevieria, a house plant here, good in all of its tall forms. Here is a photo of sansevieria I used in a March show, and it is STILL today, strong and whole. I will soon plop more flowers in this container, and the sansevieria will give the design upward thrust or movement:

I like the cut fronds as counterpoint to the orbs and blossoms. Good show!
