Harry Potter and my book club of two?

I am reading Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone. If you are not familiar with it, it is a very popular children's book, but oddly, grown-folks seem to love it too.

Why am I reading such a low-minded book? Well...

I met a woman at Whole Foods. She is a cashier. She is about 30. There was a peculiar tattoo on her forearm. So I asked about it. She said it was a Harry Potter thing. She suggested I read the books. I was like, "No thanks, I am an adult." haha

She asked me about reading them again a couple weeks later. So I said: "I will read Harry Potter if you read a book I suggest."

She went "Psha!" and she said: "I dunno about that..."

Then a few days later I saw her again and she said: "Okay, what book do you want me to read?"

I said: "Welcome to The Monkey House" By Kurt Vonnegut.
She wrote it down on a piece of paper and stuffed it in her pocket. So I said: "Looks like we have a book club of two." haha

You may like Harry Potter. I loved the series - didn't find it at all childish. What is "low-minded" to you? To me, it's like Harlequin Romance stuff - nothing like HP. YMMV, of course. That said, I read a lot of Vonnegut back in the day, and I really like him too. I'm a very eclectic reader, lol. In general, almost any book is better than no book at all...

    Enjoy your book club!

I am giving it a chance. But it is a book for kids, after all.

On I love books for kids, lots of life lessons. I never read the whole series, actually not much of it, so I may take it on my long camping trip

I did not read a book until I was 14, so kids' books never interested me. When I started reading, I read a few books for teens and then I just went into books for grown-ups and that is where I still do my reading.

You said "Harry Potter..if you are not familiar with it..."

Planet to UL, we are glad you touched down in our world.

Good literature for children is good stuff. The Harry Potter books are in the tradition of great English fantasy for youth. The Britsish do it best.

Harry Potter books have spawned much critical literature analyzing them. Not as much as Vonnegut, but a lot. Sure they arent in the same literary class as Vonnegut, but neither are they anywhere near anything
    Disney.
