All my pleasures are simple--good friends, good food, an engaging book, plenty of free time...

Dinner: sauted 2 cloves sliced garlic. Tossed in 2 chopped heirloom tomatoes from the garden. Saute 5m. Topped with shrimp. Cooked another 4 minutes. Poured over WW spaghetti noodles.

Oh so easy and oh so TASTY

    Remembering my childhood.

Walking with my wife while she talks incessantly....me just nodding

    Noodling around on the guitar

    Making Applesauce

Glimpsing a bear and her cubs

Taking my mother for a hand dipped cherry vanilla ice cream cone

The smell of freshly ground hazelnut coffee beans

    Sinking a 30 foot putt

    Complete silence

Making friends with a strange dog

    Paying with cash

Going shopping and not meeting anyone I know

A generous tumbler of Makers Mark

Caressing a real hard bound book

The tug of a brook trout on a hookless barb....one I know I am going to release

Making things out of cumulus clouds

    Using a store coupon

    Sending an anonymous gift

    Hugging my granddaughter

Did, I say, hugging my granddaughter?

I had to add this song and video by John Lennon. I just ran into an Assistant District Attorney who asked me what I was doing. I said, “Livin”. You could tell she wasn’t ready for that. Wanted to know how I could walk out on such a successful career. I said I had a premonition that I needed to get out sooner rather than later. It turned out to be right.

WS: it is wonderful that you still have your Mom. My Mom said to never ignore your intuition or you would be sorry and it sounds like you did just that.

Same here. Very stressful, albeit successful career. People's mouths dropped open when I said I was going to retire. Just received a commendation given to few. I am so thankful to be free!

Have to add to my "simple pleasures" list. While waiting at a traffic light at two main roads here in Saint Paul, we all were watching a bald eagle swooping around the intersection, no more than 100 feet away. It took effort to remember to watch for the light to turn green. Bald eagles are not an uncommon sight here. Watching those majestic birds is a simple pleasure.

Walking in the midst of fall foliage... especially maple, ash, oak and sumac.
