I dressed this morning to go out to get fuel for the snowblower (somewhere between 1 and 78 inches predicted for tonight/tomorrow) and pick up some groceries on which we're running low. When I got to the garage I saw the gas container was almost full. Don't need gas... So I decided to walk to the local grocery store for the other items and got half a block before I remembered that I will have to be out tomorrow anyway to watch the grands so I could stop on my way home then. So: no-spend, no-drive day today, no need to spend more on gasoline (non-oxygenated; it's not cheap and it's not nearby), and frugal on time, too (maybe 40 minutes added to my day for something more fun than errands).
If Americans expended even a fraction of the energy on civic engagement that we spend on consumer ideology, our democracy would be much healthier. Can you imagine people camping out to vote? -- Charles Roberts, Amherst, Mass., Nov. 25, 2006

Planned on visiting Minneapolis area for a few days. Had to cancel because of the impending storm. Bummed.
