    Alas, Babylon

I just started reading Alas, Babylon! So far it seems like it ought to be a really good read!

It is about a nuclear doomsday.

    lol!

Yeah, I would not even know where to look for something uplifting. Once in a while I will come across a memoir that is uplifting. But doomsday sci-fi tends to be by genre.

You came of age in the 1980s Cold War era, right?

I read it my junior year of high school - 1985-86. I was reading late at night and it scared me. Enjoyed the book, though, and recently read it again.

That book scared me into nightmares. But I was hooked from the beginning.

I read that many years ago, probably 1970's and I can still recall parts of it today. Good book. Being a child during the cold war with Russia, The Cuban Missile Crisis, etc. it was pretty scary for me, but still a good book.
