    Perhaps. haha

Since I got released from the lab this morning I have been thinking a lot about why I slept better.

Here is my set of likely reasons:
-The room was entirely dedicated to sleep. There was no laundry basket or sketchbook or closet full of clothes or washers/driers. It was just a room with a nominally comfortable bed and an attached bathroom.
-I unplugged and was not using my laptop from about 6pm onward. I usually sleep better when I unplug long before bed or on my days when I unplug.
-The book I was reading was not especially suspenseful or wrought with powerful emotion.
-I knew I was there to sleep and I was stuck there.
-I did not eat after 6:30pm; often when I eat later in the evening or night I will have wacky dreams or nightmares

If they do tell you that you should get a CPAP, I think you may want to try a few changes in your nighttime routine before you don the facemask.

Good suggestion Steve. DH and I were talking about how many people are using CPAPs these days. Why? Is it because so many people are overweight? Do more people in the U.S. use them than other similar countries?
Just seems curious that so many of us need these things......

Teacher Terry..............I can't believe they gave you ambien. Seems like that would have totally messed up your sleep. Yes, you probably slept, but what did it do to your stages? Just curious. I took a xanax on my second one, and I've wondered the same things. But ambien seems so much more prone to funkiness.

I was on both Xanax and Ambien for sleep and they both ended up having a paradoxical effect. They also depressed my breathing hence the apnea. Now that I'm off both I'm sleeping better than I have in a very VERY long time. I can fall asleep (never thought that would happen) and stay asleep for the most part (never thought that would happen) and the sleep specialist said after reading my stats that I don't need the CPAP anymore. I still use it on occasion but we travel and I never take it or stress about it.

That's great Simplemind! I would LOVE to not use it......especially in summer when there are so many neat sounds outside. Fortunately, the tree frogs have been so loud, I can hear them above the "hiss" of my mask.
I was sick and had a horrible cough awhile back. I use a nasal mask, but leak horribly through my mouth, so I tape it shut. (have done this for 12 years). I couldn't chance having a coughing fit with that tape on my mouth (my brains might squirt out of my ears).........so I didn't wear it for about 2 weeks. It was wonderful. Maybe it was because I was sick and not doing much, but it didn't seem to make a difference. To get insurance, you have to "comply" a certain percentage of the time, so I don't want to do that too often......but I don't want to continue to wear it, if I don't need it anymore. Recording oximeters are pretty inexpensive and could let us know if we drop our O2 at night. I would probably check that occasionally.

It is Cathy. Don't even get me started on how easily they were prescribed for me and how nightmarish they were to taper off from.

Several times I have heard people I know who use them, say the that for a cpap there is some sort of necksize indicator. A couple I know came off the machine after losing weight. You might ask the doctor not about treatment, but about cure/goal.
