Probably not really the point but this morning I went to a local owned grocery that sells local produce. I got a half dozen ears of local corn, two vine ripened tomatoes, a spaghetti squash, a cantaloupe, a bunch of bananas, a pound of cheese, three plums and six peaches and a package of hotdog buns for just $18. I know the corn and soy bean farm model is profitable but it wouldn’t bother me if China got less of our farm production and we got more of it ourselves. Perhaps, we could subsidize small diverse farms rather than one trick pony agribusiness.
