    Dried Lentil and Soy Beans

Have done a pantry clean-up and found a gallon jar of dried lentils and a gallon jar of dried soy beans. Need some recipes to start using these. The soy beans used to be for soy milk, but no longer make/use that. Anyone have any other recipes to share?

Looking forward to seeing what others post. I have found the most interesting recipes in pressure cooking cookbooks.

I'm eating a lentil soup currently, so I can recommend adding lentils to any soup as a boost.

I've made lentil spaghetti sauce, and even though dh wants his meat, if I wanted to I could have passed it off sin e it was so flavorful.

Get some Indian spices and even just lentils cooked with onion and the spices will be good. I don't know for sure what I have, but I'm using it more and more since it did so well in the lentils I was using up, like you. I think garam masala, in English it says mixed spices.

Take them to the local food pantry and have a Klondike instead.

Cannot do that without a best before date current and active for local food banks. Dried goods are still very usable after the BB date though. At least, I have used these types of food well past the BB date.

I used this website a lot last winter when I was trying to eat more pulses. They do have a lot of ideas for lentils.

I really like this soup. I got the recipe from here -

Lentil Tomato Soup – pressure cook

    1 onion chopped
    2 carrots chopped
    1 celery chopped
    2 cloves garlic minced
    1 cup lentils rinsed
    3.5 cups water or stock
3/8 tsp pepper, ˝ tsp salt
    1 bay leaf
    28 oz. diced tomatoes
Add all to pressure cooker and cook 3 minutes at high pressure. Let cool naturally, remove bay leaf before serving.

    Recipe from Createquilts circa 2009

I have a few more I got from here. I will look them up for you.

Thanks, thinkgreen. I just got a can of diced tomatoes. I don't have a pressure cooker, but may actually try this in the crockpot.
