5 dry Spice Blends plus Salt and Pepper

Ultralight had a great question recently about our top 10 spices.

I’d like to ask a related question. You already have salt and pepper. Now assume that you can have just five dry spice blends to cover your additional cooking needs. What do you choose?

Garam masala, chili powder, italian herb blend, a sweet curry powder, and pie spice (cinnamon, nutmeg, etc). I could do a few cuisines with those I think.

By blends, I assume you mean ready-made mixes of more than one ingredient.

If I could add a 6th, it'd be a half/half mix of cumin and coriander. That isn't something that is commercially available as a "blend" so probably would not fall under your criteria.

And "welcome back" Amaranth- haven't seen you post in a while.

Garam masala, Italian blend, Chinese Five Spice, pumpkin pie spice, Everything but the Bagel blend (TJ's).
My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far today, I have finished two bags of M&Ms and a chocolate cake. I feel better already!

Yes the ready made mixes are what I was looking for. Looks like you could go pretty far with those.

Kay, what ways would you use the Everything but the bagel blend?

Oh,l I've sprinkled it on salads, scrambled eggs, avocado toast, steamed veggies, that kind of thing. Not as a cooking ingredient per se.

So that's a Trader Joe's product? Sounds great!

I think I'd stick to an Italian blend: Onion salt, granulated garlic, parsley, basil, oregano

I like Penzey's Sate seasoning, among many other Penzey's spices.
