Tried a friend's recipe yesterday for an early Christmas dinner and it is a keeper for occasions requiring a light dessert.

    Norma's dessert

    Ingredients
1 can crushed pineapple, (19oz or 540 ml)
1 pkg jello powder, lemon or lime or orange (the one cup hot water and a cup cold water size)
    some water
    ice cream

    Directions
    1 Drain crushed pineapple, saving juice;
    2. measure saved juice adding just enough water to make a cupful; heat this to boiling.
    3. add 1 pkg lemon jelly powder stirring well to dissolve.
    4. add 2 cups of ice cream and stir well
    5. add the drained pineapple, mixing well.
    6. pour into a storage dish and let set.

    Makes 4 cups.
Norma will make this in layers of lemon and let set, then lime, let set and then another lemon layer for family potlucks. This is always requested.
As Cicero said, “Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others.”

Here's one for the low-carb set (or not--just substitute sugar for Swerve).

I rarely eat dessert. I prefer salty snacks.

I used to make desserts, I liked to make pies. And dump cake, which is nutritional nightmare but scrumptious.

Now I make a fruit crumble once in a while, very light on the sugar, lots of fruit and chopped walnuts.

When my kids were home I baked cookies and homemade candy in mass quantities for the holidays. Haven’t done it in years now.

Our one family recipe of a pastry, you start with a yeast dough that sits overnight and then is rolled out into long rectangles. Then you put filling on 2/3 of it and fold over so it it layered. Traditionally my grandmother made prune and apple. I am doing apricot and pumpkin cream cheese for tomorrow night. It is not very sweet so I make cream cheese frosting for on top.

Sorry about that. I have Ad Block, so I didn't notice. I love kheer, so will be trying this.

I adore any custardy-thing such as Creme Brulee or Flan or Creme Caramel.

After that, I'd opt for home-made Key Lime Pie or home-made blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream.
    peaceful, easy feeling
