Would you buy a new stove?

Okay, here's my question for you frugal folk. I am contemplating buying a new to us used stove on Craigslist for 150 dollars.
Background--the cheap propane stove that came with our house worked okay for four year, and then conked out exactly a year ago. We found a nice stove to buy at Lowes, but we wanted to try to fix old stove ourselves. I researched it and diagnosed it as an igniter problem. I ordered an ignited for 65 dollars and DH put it in successfully and stove worked again.

A week ago the stove conked out again. Same problem, so went stove shopping again but also ordered same part and husband fixed stove again.

Meanwhile, located a really nice 5 burner on craigslist near us that is much nicer than current stove and costs 150. Was going to just buy it but thought we'd try the repair first.

Repair worked. But this is a much nicer stove. Should we buy it and store it until this one breaks down, or take with us when we move? Or we could change stoves and use the new to us one but would need to sell it with the house if we sell house.

We have room to store stove, no problem. But we don't technically need it anymore. But then again, part of frugality is meeting future needs when you are not in emergency mode.

When are you moving? If far in the future, I'd buy used stove and sell current used stove. If sooner, buy and use nicer stove. Store current stove and leave IT with the house when you move. In our area at least it is hard to find good used appliances that are inexpensive.

Yeah, I think it sounds like a good investment. $150 sounds like a great price for something that will be more reliable, you'll enjoy, will be more functional, and I'm assuming will upgrade the appearance of your kitchen.

You'd only have to decide whether to leave or move the stove when you find the next place.

Thanks, guys! Will tell DH when he gets home we are going stove shopping--it's a fun drive to one of our favorite towns, so that's cool too. People seemed nice--he said his wife wanted new color (this one is white) and he can't get his truck in the garage with the old one there.

I looked into colored stoves for our Hermann house, I thought one of those would be fun. Good Lord a- mighty they are foolishly expensive, my God. Yeah I could afford one but I’m not gonna spend that kind of money.

That reminds me of my online shopping expedition of last week when I was feeling rich again the ( the stock market had just shot up 1,000 points)and I thought hey why don’t we fly first class, one time in our lives, to Europe? How expensive can that be? Well! It is bloody ridiculous expensive. I won’t ever be flying first class to Europe.

IL, that sounds like my ex's widow. He wanted his body buried in his home state with his parents. She found out what it cost to ship the body and she cremated him.

Have you looked into appliance painting? It might be cheaper.

Sounds wonderful. I would buy AND install/use. I would however negotiate a 30d full refund agreement. If they refuse, you know there is a problem.

I would use the He$$ out of it those 30 days.

There is a reason that it's only $150-you need to know that.

Appliances are always cheap on CL. We sold a dryer that worked well for 50 because it was old. We sold the washer for 30. I didn’t want people to be out much money if they died. My friend had upgraded and we bought their set.
