I agree catherine it should be called A Divorce Story since thats what it is about.

OK, it didn’t charm me and it won’t be a memorable movie, but some of us are so starved for high-quality dramatic films* that we will take anything and elevate it beyond what it should probably be.

I will look out for these other two movies mentioned about marriage.

    * films that are not bio pics. Am avoiding those, just am tired of the genre.
Well, in the end, I did like the movie, and it really shed light on the sadness of the disintegration of the relationship. Both performances were very good. (I particularly enjoyed Adam Driver singing that old Sondheim song I haven't heard in ages--Being Alive. What a great song.)

I'll check out 45 Years. Looks great, Tybee! Thanks.

Just saw One Child Nation, about the one-child policy in China. It was highly informative for me.. I knew there was a policy, but I had no idea about the tactics they used to enforce the policy. Heart-wrenching, and very provocative re the State vs personal freedom.

Went to the latest Jumanji. After seeing Lion King and other animated movies, Jumanji was disappointing.

Finally saw Mama Mia: Here We Go Again. Nice and really enjoyed the music.

My first Christmas movie this year was one called Noel. Big name actors and interesting story/stories. I enjoyed it.

It didn’t get a good review from my favorite reviewer, Frank Sweitek.

Watched A Marriage Story. which was so depressing, but accurate as to divorce and how hard it is on everyone. Sad, but I guess end was mildly hopeful for return of normalcy?

yes that’s how I saw the end. The characters went through a traumatic time, but being resilient and decent people, they salvaged their lives and came out on the other side with a relationship of respect.

Because it is a movie, only a Hollywood movie, I will not over analyze the initial problem which is: the Scarlett Johansson character up and moved her child across the country from his father. That’s a pretty shitty thing to do so yeah, in real life she would earn all my scorn.

But because it’s only a movie I can look at what the director wanted us to look at, how these people who were once in a close and loving relationship negotiated something new.

Yeah, in real life he would probably been able to get her compelled to bring the child back to NY, but neither seemed to be making decisions based on what was best for the child. In real life, it would have been hard not to dislike them both, in my opinion.

Saw Knives Out Sunday afternoon - lots of talented acting and a fun old-fashioned whodunit. I will watch it again if it shows up on Netflix or Amazon.
