Yuliya, you look like a girl after my own heart--I love self-improvement books. If you do, you might enjoy Brian Johnson's website, optimize.me. What I love about this site is he provides excerpts in either video, podcast, or pdf formats for over 500 self-help books. I was in the habit for a while of "reading" a book a day. I learned so much. He has other motivational features on the website as well.

Check him out! Best self-help book I've read this year is Atomic Habits by James Clear.

Thank you Catherine, I will definitely check it out!

Reasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig. Late last year I read a novel of his, and he has proven a good discovery.

Karin Slaughter's novel Pieces of Her. It's holding my interest so far, but I fear it will end up being some variation of Gone Girl or Sometimes I Lie. Once burned, twice shy.

Re-reading “The Personal Memoirs of US Grant”. From an era before ghostwriters and “composite characters”. A dying man speaking honestly about his life and role in large events. Such a refreshing departure from this era of whining self-justification.

Barbara Kingsolver's Pigs in Heaven , a sequel to The Bean Trees I usually love her books and this one is pretty good.

Joyful: The Surprising Power of Ordinary Things to Create Extraordinary Happiness by Ingrid Fetell Lee.
As an unrepentant materialist, I find this book refreshing. The author has some experience in industrial design--a field I had a very brief flirtation with--and her obvious love of the subject reinforces my own.

nswef, did you ever read "Animal Dreams?" It's my favorite of her books.
My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far today, I have finished two bags of M&Ms and a chocolate cake. I feel better already!
