Cool! The signs of spring are everywhere; this is such an exciting time of year!
We are right under their fly path here in central Indiana. I heard them overhead today! Beautiful birds.
Wow!
Also, I saw the first 2 turkey vultures return today too. And I even saw a wild turkey!
i think bird migration is pretty amazing. My understanding is that geese, cranes, raptors and maybe a few more migrators are monogamous and mate for the life of their partner. I've wondered how they find each other to nest at the end of the springtime journey. Maybe we humans all look the same to them.
My hunch is mates stick together in a flock when a migration is underway.
Every spring I enjoy watching pairs of wild swans in the river near my house. They have quite a precise routine of swimming up to each other, dipping their bills into the water, and swimming in circles.
I imagine it's a display: "I can swim with one leg!" "Oh yeah? Well, so can I!"
I love this time of year and yes I think they stick together.
