My son just bought his camper, and he's psyched about it.. $1500, hand-built tear-drop. Very unique, small and just what he needs. He is SO psyched about it. And it will fit nicely and blend in in our yard.

I have always entertained some romantic notion of a Steinbeck like camper once my tent camping days were done, which is about now. I can't see towing a camper, although I've seen those tear drop campers towed behind a Subaru. Rocinante:

Went to an RV show today. Some of them are so huge and have such over the top features, it boggles the mind.

With gas mileage costs and fees to park, wonder if it is just easier, more convenient and least costly to go to standard lodging?

Last year we left our motor home and took our car and stayed at motels. It was cheaper and we didn’t have a problem finding places that would take our 3 dogs even though one was huge.

Definitely. When my sister and her wife decided to buy an RV they crunched the numbers and realized that it was definitely not cheaper. But they decided to do it anyway because 1) they wanted to sleep in their own bed every night, 2) they wanted to be able to take their cat and dog with them for long trips and 3) they wanted something that could serve as a nice stand-alone guest cottage in their backyard. Since retiring they've done two several month long trips and a number of shorter trips and have been super pleased with it. They didn't get one of the mega ones. Theirs is 23 feet long (I think) and based on the Dodge Sprinter diesel drivetrain. It is just big enough that it's got two separate sitting areas so one person can be watching tv and one doing something else like reading a book.
