December purge

Broke a family heirloom butter dish today. Am secretly happy about it.

A million decisions-- yesterday we were out in the shed and I said, Let's get rid of the walker (acquired when husband shattered his pelvis), take it to goodwill. Then thought, he is looking at hip replacement surgery, so why get rid of walker now? Then thoght, I can get a new one for 10 dollars at the Goodwill in the future if he needs one. Then thought, why risk it?

So where would you declutters come down on the walker. Unfortunately, this ambivalence is multiplied by the number of things I own, it seems, which scares me--is this how frugal millionaires are born, or hoarders?

Personally, I fall on the side of - if you KNOW you will use it in the near future, keep it! Otherwise, bye-bye. It's not like you won't be able to get another, should the need arise.

Decided to get rid of half of what is left for Xmas and have it in my car for goodwill. I decorated with the rest.

I'm hoping to deliver a large bag of gift wrap, and maybe an artificial tree, to a charity this week.

Off loaded 4 spools of ribbon to someone who has a bow maker.

I would keep the walker if pretty much everyone who gets hips surgery uses one for awhile, I'd get rid of it maybe if it's a rare complication. I guess I'd lean toward keeping it although I am also of the philosophy of only keeping what you are likely to use but that seems the case?

I probably should have a few xmas decorations as I always seem to be gifted a mini tree nearly every year, no I wouldn't buy them new.

Major win: We had 3 defunct laptops in the cellar. The plan, such as it was, was to let the pile grow and let someone else deal with it after we die and are no longer concerned about anyone accessing our information. So pathetic, I know. Found out that a trusted friend of a trusted friend breaks them down and recycles them with his sons for the scrap value and he destroys the hard discs. He just picked them up and they are gone from my life, and I have his contact info for the future.

I've found that broken/older tech can be very hard to get rid of, so that is a major win! Congrats!
