In light of all the wisdom presented and questions being asked, may I please add a query - if one uses the technology with wisdom as a helpful communication device rather than an attached extension of the physical body, would this alleviate the concerns being expressed?
As Cicero said, “Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others.”

Some of them, perhaps. There have been studies about the effects of the near-field radiation emitted by devices like mobile phones. I have not examined those studies to determine their quality so I can't speak to their conclusions. And those studies would not address concerns about things like the possible effects of 5G radio waves on animals or of any ecological effects of putting up compatible transmission towers. But given that so many put greater value on what they believe compared to what we know (or can know; anti-vaxxers come to mind), I'm not sure there's anything that could change some minds.

Anyone who does not want a 5G phone is welcome to keep their non-5G phone. Then they eventualy can toss it in a landfill because, after some years, it will no longer work. The spectrum that older phones use will go away. But not going 5G certainly is a choice. Not everyone needs (or even wants) a mobile phone.
It can't be tossed into a landfill . It's electronic waste and thus should be taken to electronic waste disposal (what they do with it otoh ..). So generating all that electronic waste for something utterly poinless is somehow a good thing?

IF that exists where you live. Many rural areas West of the Mississippi have no such service.

And while the battery and circuit card and metal case (if it has one) are readily recyclable, plastic components are not. Guaranteed some of that phone ends up in a landfill.

I'm not sure why that's becoming a focus of the discussion, however. So don't get a 5G phone. It's fine. Eventually the phone you have will stop working. Then you can decide how you want to communicate with others without a working mobile phone. There are plenty of other ways (landline; at least for now, VOIP, tablet/computer-based email). Really resisting the idea of a 5G phone just seems like an odd hill to defend.

US model iPhones support 28+ LTE frequencies already, and presumably some other legacy frequencies, all basically with one chip.

I suspect the next model cell phones will simply add a couple of additional bands/channels, as they do with every new model release.

This thread reminds me of one of my parents' former neighbors in their building many years ago*. She was terrified of cellular signals, convinced that they were screwing with her brain. So much so that she had covered her windows with aluminum foil and routinely slept in the internal stairwell of the building, figuring that multiple layers of concrete walls would protect her. She also successfully fought to keep the condo association from signing an agreement with one of the cellular providers to be paid to have a cellular tower on the roof of the building. So the church across the street signed the deal and installed cell antennas in their steeple, some undoubtedly pointed directly at my parents' building...

*Other than this one odd quirk she was actually a really sweet lady who had become good friends with my parents.
