Spent about half what I normally do on groceries. My cold or flu or whatever it is still is lingering and suppressing my appetite.

This may be more a matter of luck than frugality, but we recently had to replace our water heater. Plumber found out for us that it was under warranty, so our total out of pocket for replacement was $588. instead of the much higher amount I was anticipating.

Why was there any cost if under warranty?

I suspect warranty does not include labor.

This. Typically parts are warranteed far longer than labor.

    Feb 9th
--In my decluttering I used a long piece of fabric to make
Dd a dress. She thanked me with lunch out..Win..wind.
--50% of at Good will yesterday spent a total of $32.50 with items
too many to list. Best was a Columbia winter jacket and a very large
brand new bath sheet, and two hand towels, sweater, 3 shirts and more.
The have $2.50 bags of kitchen stuff which I bought two of for $5.00,
gave some things to Dd,keeping some as replacements for things
that are really old and will give the rest back to charity.
Amazing haul for $32.50..of course some of this does not jive
with all the decluttering I am trying to do...lol

Yes, Alan and Steve are correct. The plumber still deserved to get paid for his work. The warranty for this type of thing is also pro-rated. We got 8 years out of a 10-year water heater, so the new one wasn't entirely free.

PS: Our plumber is great - fast and responsive, does good work, nice guy, and his prices are quite reasonable. We are lucky to have him.

Stayed home all day yesterday and watched snow fall. Frugal, if a bit cabin feverish.
