    Airfare refunds

We were supposed to fly to Texas next week and I still haven't canceled our reservations. It feels like we should be getting refunds rather than credit since the flights will most likely be canceled. What if the airline isn't around in a year? I guess we're just out $500.

If they cancel you get a refund. Check daily.

I called and all they would give me was credit for a different flight before December. Have no idea if they cancelled or not but I could not have flown anyway.

I did learn that if I die before I use the credit, they'll give my family the money back. I specifically asked.

Others I have known have successfully disputed the charge with their CC company. If our flights to Poland aren't cancelled in August or they refuse to refund me I will try that tactic.

Really? Maybe I will try that. Very interesting.

It worked for a few people and doesn't cost anything to try). Just read that it’s a requirement to refund money not a credit by the DOT. But the airline must cancel it and not you.

Today the US Department of Transportation stated clearly that airlines operating in the U.S. are "obligated to provide a prompt refund to passengers...when a carrier cancels the passenger's scheduled flight or makes a significant schedule change and the passenger chooses not to accept the alternative offered..."

I cancelled a flight for Nashville visit to a friend. I have a credit for face value to be used within 365 days. I don't know that any airline does full refund.

Read carefully the post above yours.
The difference is WHO did the canceling.

I canceled late last night as the flight still shows as going this morning. I think they keep a couple of nonstop flights going with or without passengers.
