It finally got close to me. My favorite baker, her husband, her employee, and employee's spouse got it. All tested. Husband was really sick. In my mom's senior living community they provide a daily report to anyone who wants to be notified. One case cleared and a new one in isolation. There are 700 apartments and some people over 100. They are working very hard to keep it out with visitors restricted and everyone needing to sign in for tracking.

I know people who have/have had it and I know more than I want to know who have died from it.

The people I know of are mostly middle-aged, and don't have any more underlying conditions than anyone else in that cohort. My father had the flu in his eighties and lived through it without the sequelae I'm hearing about with this.

Our local paper announced that we probably have grossly under-counted Washington cases. Washington's percentage of COVID fatalities is over five percent--way highter than the flu.

My MIL (in a nursing home) has tested positive. A local garden center owner's 53 YO sister just died from it, and a good friend's ex-husband was quite sick from it but recovered.

I am really sorry to hear about your MIL. They have not done testing yet in my parents' place but the place two doors down just had a massive outbreak, along with another in a nearby town. In the place in the nearby town, out of 100 residents, 45 tested positive, as did 12 staff.

I hope your MIL is OK RR. People as old as 102 have recovered from covid. It is not a death sentence.

Thanks, everyone. The other facility in town had a lot of cases and was losing staff at an alarming rate. There had been no cases at MIL's facility, but then they did testing . . . I guess they had been following the Trump rationale of no testing, no cases and all is well!

The post-mortem when this is all over will be interesting. To me the best current guidance is to maintain physical distance, but who knows? Family aren't allowed to visit relatives in nursing homes, but the facilities are hotbeds anyway.
