TIL ( Today I learned) it is now fashionable to have a sofa cushion that doesn’t match the rest of the upholstery.
Below you will see the sofa I bought today. I always buy sofas from this company because they have sponsored the pet neuter/spay clinic in my neighborhood. This will be the fourth sofa I buy from them.
So I went in thinking I should probably order the sofa because it’ll take several weeks to get here. Well, any custom work is now taking six months. The one sofa I liked has, strangely, a different color bottom cushion. The sofa is white linen but the bottom cushion is gray velvet. So, this is a fashion now I guess? I find these two colors jarring, not nice.
but because I really like the lines of the sofa, and because I like the white linen parts of it, I decided I would buy it as is and take the bottom home and re-cover it myself. Thing is if I paid to have a custom version made with all the same fabric, not only would it take six months, but it would cost $3000. This model on the floor cost $1500.
So I do will do a weekend’s worth of work and with about $50 worth of fabric have a cushion that is more in line with my decor, but it won’t be white. I’ll cover the cushion in navy and my accent color which is either going to be lime green or red. Actually, as I sit here thinking about it, I’m kind of excited about how this will turn into a custom sofa.

Interesting to see and read the new colour path to interior fashion. Why a sofa? I ask seriously as it seems large for a smaller space. I have a small space as well and opted out of a sofa with a number of friends commenting surprise. I chose 4 unique chairs instead which can be moved and add the good dining chairs if the number of guests require it.
As Cicero said, “Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others.”
razz I have seen the 4 chairs solution to seating and I like it! It is very “now.” That would’ve been a cool option for my condo except that I would want 4 matching chairs. I already have purchased two vintage Charles Hollis lucite chairs. Those were practically the first thing I purchase for my condo more than a year ago.
oh, and also, this sofa serves as a bed for one of us, DH or me, when we both stay overnight.
The bed that’s in my condo is a single bed.
My chair dilemma centers around the fact that in my "living area" I have a wing chair and a recliner (which I bought when DH was going through a horrible time with nighttime leg cramps--we ditched the matching wing chair.)
I also have a farmhouse dining table and 5 typical dining chairs. Those dining chairs are very hard to sit on for a long period of time. So I am trying to come to a solution as to how to accommodate guests. I am looking for a two-comfy-chair solution. I recently considered a settee that is big enough for two, but no more. But for the while, I am going to just use our foldable camp chairs, which are pretty darn comfortable and good enough for when my DD/SIL come for dinner and want to stay for a movie.
As for the mismatched cushions: someday I want to get around to making a slipcover for my wing chair and it will definitely be a combination of fabrics. On Pinterest, those types of chairs are very appealing to me.

We bought our dining chairs 45 years ago because they were so comfortable. Wide seat!, thick built in flat cushion and a slightly curved back. We bought them after an extensive test drive to make sure they were comfortable.
We now need them recovered and will keep them. Nothing worse than uncomfortable seating. We have moved them around and the two arm chairs are fine in the living room.
I might like one of those upholstered chairs that folds out into a bed for the occasional sleepover. I have a couch I may have used once or twice.
