Has he actually done that? I understand it's illegal to buy votes.

Well time to watch these uninspiring at best folks (ok trump is loathsome and biden horribly uninspiring) on the corporate entity given exclu$ive right$ to cover it. Why is this not on public television or c-span? So corrupt.

Originally felons didn’t have to pay restitution first but it was put into effect to stop them from voting. Bloomberg solves the problem and doesn’t know who these people will vote for.

It will also be curious to see what comes of the fact that trump apparently paid ivanka $750k in consulting fees for hotel projects at a time when she was on staff already and then deducted it as a business expense. At first glance that would seem to be a way to illegally avoid the gift tax.

I guess that depends upon your definition of "originally" because in Florida felons couldn't vote at all until 2018 when the legislature reinstated voting rights to felons once they had served their sentences including parole and probation. Under that legislation felons convicted of murder and sexual offenses were excluded. Then in 2019 the legislature amended the law to include the requirement of payment of all fees they owe regarding their cases. The voting rights of felons convicted of murder or sexual offenses remained restricted under the newer legislation.

What Mr Bloomberg has done is to effectively nullify the amended law by relieving the majority of felons of their state mandated requirement to compensate the state or locality. My guess is he knows the odds of achieving a political benefit during the upcoming election are on his side. I think his intentions are obvious since he hasn't mentioned maintaining his magnanimity after the election.

It was t the legislature that restored voting rights. It was a referendum that voters approved. And the referendum states that they had to complete their sentence including probation. It didn’t say that they had to also pay court fees. The legislature implemented that afterwards in an effort to thwart the will of the voters.

    That's correct, I mispoke.

Or perhaps to incentivize felons to pay their fees, they never said felons couldn't vote, just that they had to pay their court ordered fees first. It actually occurs to me that the requirement to pay mandated fees should have been a part of the termination of their probation or parole which was a requirement of the voter referendum.

But it wasn’t so the republicans implemented a modern day poll tax and had a partisan stranglehold on the courts to get it upheld. Because that’s their style. And they don’t acknowledge that the court fees are an ongoing attempt to keep poor people down. Ferguson missouri is a prime example of the punitive nature of that. Florida is just as bad.

The state was not deprived of it’s fees. If money is the real issue it shouldn’t matter where it comes from. No one is stupid enough to believe that however.

That's an interesting take. If someone is sentenced to 30 days in jail for a misdemeanor violation, does it matter who serves it?
