Happy 245th birthday to the USMC!

We had dinner at my son's girlfriend's parents' house last Thursday. Her dad, ("Gunner") mentioned his birthday is today. Apparently, he considers today his birthday - not the day he was born on! He said he'd be 245 today.

Seriously, the birthday celebrations since 1921 have included a reading of Commandant John A. Lejeune's message "to all Marines throughout the globe."

I've always admired the Marine Corps and known and been close to many Marines, including my younger brother. The thing that impresses me most is that an Air Force veteran such as myself doesn't forever consider himself an Airman, an Army veteran doesn't always consider herself a Soldier, a Navy veteran doesn't always consider themselves a Sailor, but I'll be damned if every single Marine veteran everywhere goes through life as a Marine. Semper Fi!
