Ooh Rah!
The cake cutting ceremony makes me cry. (My Marine dad is 92.)
My ex was a marine and went to Vietnam.
I'll have to tell DH who served in the early 70s.

We celebrate Marines every day with the Bulldogs at our house!
I've always admired the Marine Corps and known and been close to many Marines, including my younger brother. The thing that impresses me most is that an Air Force veteran such as myself doesn't forever consider himself an Airman, an Army veteran doesn't always consider herself a Soldier, a Navy veteran doesn't always consider themselves a Sailor, but I'll be damned if every single Marine veteran everywhere goes through life as a Marine. It has been reported that the Commandant's Birthday Ball, as well as those of subordinate Commanders have been cancelled due to COVID-19. I understand that this is the first cancelation since 1921. Headline writers could hardly resist the temptation to say, This Year Marines Have No Balls.
Yeah, they better not say that around any Marines.
That’s very true. You don’t see that many USAF tattoos out there. I’m reasonably proud of having served as an Air Force officer, maybe even to the point of smugness; but it doesn’t define me in the sense of “once a jarhead always a jarhead”. Maybe that’s due to the doctrine of everyone being a rifleman first and a specialist second, the relatively smaller community, or the solidarity that may stem from being a sort of poor relation within the larger Navy family. But it’s worked well for them (and the rest of us) for a very long time.
