I just finished The Church of Marvels by Leslie Parry from my list, and I thought it was a really good read. I guess it was a human drama/adventure, involving sword-swallowing, sisters, buying and selling of babies, a dogboy pugilist, trans-sexuality, a woman's insane asylum, baby rattle filled with human teeth, an opium den... All the elements of a fun story were there!

it does. It is definitely a lot like other books, like Karen McCall Financial recovery, and she is a little "hey girlfriend, eat chocolate for my tastes," but she really does have some new great insights about emotions and money, which is what I am working on right now. I think going through her book will help me, and I am actually thinking of signing up for her year long program, which is expensive at 88 dollars a month, but if it can help me to get on track with the next phase of my life, and finding my way out of this family stuff, it will be worth it--definitely a financial therapy book.

The novel Second Place. I saw myself in this passage:
"I've often thought that there are certain characters who can't or won't learn the lesson of life, and that they live among us as either a nuisance or a gift. What they cause can be called trouble or it can be called change - but the point is, though they may not mean to or want to, they make it happen. They're always stirring things up and objecting and upsetting the status quo: they won't just leave things be. They themselves are neither bad nor good - that's the important thing about them - but they know good from bad when they see it."
Running with Sherman. I expected it to be sappy since it's about an old donkey and his come-back but it is actually an engaging tale.
I just finished The Forgiven by Lawrence Osborne. I really liked it, but oddly enough, I was almost more interested in the setting of Morocco and the fossil trade than the story itself.
Latest read was Bath Haus by P.J. Vernon. It was definitely a page turner. The two main characters were a gay male couple, which is still surprisingly uncommon in mainstream fiction, so I thought that was cool. There was some pretty graphic sex in the book, so that would probably be off-putting for some. I've heard of the bath houses before, but never got a detailed "tour" of one, so that was interesting in a creepy, no place I would ever want to be in, kind of way.
Just Finished Taste: My Life Through Food by Stanley Tucci. He's one of my favorite actors and I enjoyed his series about food in Italy (on Netflix?) recently. As I was reading, I heard his voice just like an audio book. He includes quite a few recipes and name-drops unashamedly, but laughs at himself for doing so. I enjoyed it.
