Those of you follow theatre will perhaps join in the remembering of Christopher Plummer. I saw him on the stage of his last production at Stratford Festival in Stratford ON as well a number of others. He could act Shakespeare with such ease and bring his audience along. He was so comfortable and credible in his roles. I confess that I fell in love with him in The Sound of Music..
As Cicero said, “Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others.”

Watching the Sound of Music was definitely a momentous occasion in my life. It was the last movie I saw with my father. Interestingly, it was the last movie DH saw with his father. So Christopher Plummer, that formidable father figure, looms large in my heart.

I never saw him perform Shakespeare, but would have loved to.

That's the role he's most famous for among the general public, which always annoyed him for three reasons:
    1. They dubbed his songs with someone else's voice, even though he was a perfectly acceptable singer.
    2. He thought the script was a too mawkish (sentimental in a feeble or sickly way).
    3. It was such a big perennial hit it tended to overshadow everything else he did in his long successful career.

Saw him and James Earl Jones in Othello at the American Shakespeare Theater in Stratford, CT (long since defunct) back around 1980 or so. A memorable Iago.
