    You're favorite songs for dancing

I have probably 50-75 songs I love dancing to, but here are a half dozen that come to mind offhand.

Xanadu sung by Olivia Newton John https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLi8fTlDEag IMDB review: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081777/ I think this movie is underrated. Or maybe I'm just smitten with Olivia and the Electric Light Orchestra disco soundtrack.

Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want To Have Fun (Official Video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIb6AZdTr-A One of the most danceable songs ever made. Trivia: The man who plays her father in this video was a professional wrestler, so when Cyndi puts a half nelson on him and slams him into the wall, that was an inside joke as well as an obvious one.

MC Hammer - U Can't Touch This (Official Music Video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otCpCn0l4Wo Early rap with a strong beat. A few years ago one of my co-workers mentioned a name I didn't recognize, and I said "Who?" He looked at me like a Martian and said "The rapper." So I said "Oh. The only thing I know about rap is 'You Can't Touch This"" (Said in proper rhythm and with an appropriate dance move). Again he looked at me like a Martian and said "Do you have any idea how old that is?" And I said "Yeah." The conversation ended instantly.

The Shirelles - Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbxxkwBQk_o A classic slow-dance song (simi-slow?) The funny thing about this song is that it's obviously about sex, and no one objected, whereas the song Brown Eyed Girl was forced to remove the line "making love in the green grass" because it was too suggestive. I've always wondered why "Will You Still Love Me" met the clean teen criteria and Brown Eyed Girl didn't.

Neil Sedaka - Next Door To An Angel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok3qU9VjajE Almost anything by Sedaka is bouncy and highly danceable. This is one of my favorites. And of course Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen and Breaking Up Is Hard To Do have to get honorable mention on any Sedake list. If you listen carefully you'll notice Sedaka sings the background vocals like "doo bop she down down" himself on all his records.

Herman's Hermits - End Of The World https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78Gc...efZvzlnnMfs9OF A tearjerker perfect for close-together slow dancing, but not when there are grumps (grownups) around. You have to stay 12 inches apart while they're watching.

What are some of your favorite songs you love to dance to?

    Cool topic!

I have a lot of songs I like dance to--I love musicals, and by their nature, they're written to move to. But there are a lot of rock songs I dance to, too.

When I think of songs I like to dance to I think of my cleaning playlist, because I'm kind of "dancing" when I'm cleaning. So here are a few on that playlist--it's a real mixed bag:

    Musicals:
Alexander Hamilton, from the play Hamilton
One Day More, from Les Miserables
    Big Spender, from Sweet Charity
    The Money Song, from Cabaret
    All That Jazz, from Chicago
No Time At All, from Pippin
    One, from A Chorus Line

    Rock:
Bad, Bad Leroy Brown, Jim Croce
    Bathwater, No Doubt
    Jambalaya, Hank Williams
    Lady Madonna, The Beatles
Love Grows Where My Rosemary Grows, Edison Lighthouse
    Billie Jean, Michael Jackson
    I Wil Survive, Gloria Gaynor
    Bad Moon Rising, Credence Clearwater

    Other:
    Rhapsody in Blue, George Gershwin

    That's the short list
"Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it--every, every minute?" Emily Webb, Our Town

The last song that sent my heart soaring was Sia’s “ Chandelier.” That was in 2014-2015. There’s something about that song that taps into how I felt as a kid on a beautiful summer day and the way the world was open for all possibility.

Billie Jean and I Will Survive are big dancey songs.

When I first moved to Reno I was lucky enough to see Neil Sedaka perform in a small showroom and I was right in front. He was fabulous. He wrote a ton of hits he sold to other people.

I have the cd from the Hamilton musical and love them all.

I have never been a dancer. Covid lock down/stay at home/taking care of grand baby 5 days a week, I have become living room dancer! You name it 'we"dance to it. Our favorite spins of the needle come from a vast pile of 78s on my Silvertone Phonograph. She has been dancing with me since she was born, now that she toddles she points to the beautiful machine and away we go

Lucky you to get to enjoy her company

With a bit of luck you can teach her the hokey pokey when she's three and the macarena when she's five. And if you don't remember how to do the macarena, here is a stylized free-form version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LIkX0U6f5k and a good slow tutorial without the styling https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzV63IRR8BQ

BTW: these silly dances build coordination, muscle control, a sense of rhythm, and they're good exercise too.

Yes they do and fun too. I want her to feel to comfortable dancing and singing. I think if she sees crazy granny doing it all the time she will figure everyone can!

Dance like nobody's watching! This mother and daughter do. Especially the mother.
