What movies are you watching in 2021?

We saw TOpGun Maverick yesterday.

It was predictable but nice. You all need to see it on the big screen, and IMAX is preferred. We did not do IMAX however.

Tom Cruise introduces the film, and thanks everyone for coming to the movie theater to see it. I guess it was ready in 2020 but Cruise convinced production companies to hold off until Covid died down. Now it’s generating huge box office so that is good. I think it may be getting people back into the theater who have not been. I haven’t been to a movie theater since February 2020.

I’m a Tom Cruise fan in theory but his action films are so boring to me I haven’t seen a Tom .cruise movie in years and years, but all the Tommy Boy eye candy was lovely.

We went to the multiplex that has been retooled into theater seats that recline and are big and wide. They serve food. It’s all a bit much.

I really enjoy IMAX but haven't been there in years. I really wanted to see Free Solo on IMAX but missed the opportunity (good movie in any medium, though). DH is dying to see it, and I'll go with him I guess, even though it's not my type of movie, so maybe I'll scope out an IMAX screening and work out a deal with him.

I took DH to see Top Gun: Maverick for Father's Day. It was 270 surround at times (screen wrapped to the sides of the theatre). I agree with IL - it was predictable, but enjoyable. They showed a preview for yet another Mission: Impossible movie coming out soon. I heard someone on NPR's Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me say recently that after all these impossible missions, maybe they actually are possible. I liked that some of the Top Guns were POC and one was a woman.

I heard someone on NPR's Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me say recently that after all these impossible missions, maybe they actually are possible. I liked that some of the Top Guns were POC and one was a woman.

Too PC, you just knew she was going to end up flying the mission. If she flew the successful mission but died doing so, that might have been less PC although hard to say. But that would’ve been a different film.

I so wish Top Gun turns into a line of films, so Disney can buy it out and make a film called Top Nun, a true story of Mother Theresa starring Tom Cruise as Mother Theresa and Val Kilmer as her top competition. Modeled after The Sound of Music with a cameo by Julie Andews, and Directed by Lorne Michaels. But I fear woke culture is standing in the way, that the window of opportunity passed long ago.

I want to see Top Gun but my husband vetoes anything with Tom Cruise, which is probably a sound decision. But I like the Blue Angels and other aeronautic feats, so it's a sacrifice.

Mission Impossible space? Heard he was working on some space movie, wondering if this is what it involved?

I don't think so - I don't remember specifically, but I don't think space was part of it!

I really enjoyed "Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom". It is the fictitious account of a young man in Bhutan who takes a job as a teacher in what they refer to as the most remote school in the world. Great scenery and features wonderful native actors. A simple plot, but a touching feel good story without being overly contrived, plus I learned a little about Bhutan. It won a number of international prizes and nominations and I noticed Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 100% approval rating. In the native language with English subtitles. Possibly one of the best movies I've seen in a while.
