Ordered an interior door handle for our kitchen storm door. The cost was $40 @ Lowe's - where we bought the door ages ago- for the entire set (inside and outside handles) when I only needed inside. I was able to buy just the interior handle for $14.00 with free shipping from the door company website, so we went with that option. Also just realized that in the past 18 months I have spent only $6 in my shoes and clothing category, and that was for a pair of the canvas shoes I wear as house shoes, on sale at Aldi. And they are still new in the box, as the pair I have is not dead yet. I do have a stack of new-to-me Star-Trek tee shirts but those had belonged to my twin-cousin, and no one else wanted them after she passed. We were/are both huge fans - our last big outing together before she died was a pilgrimage to Riverside, Iowa.... which was also a frugal but hugely fun trip, because there's not a lot to spend money on in Riverside (other than the casino, is the last place we'd ever want to go).

Cancelled my appointment with a kitchen showroom and will see what my son can fix, then later maybe just get a countertop and not cabinets. I will use some of the savings to vacation locally and fairly frugally.

The only food purchase in the last 13 days is Greek yogurt for hubster's breakfasts and decaf coffee beans for me. I won't go to the store for another week!

DW came up from the basement yesterday declaring that the washing machine no longer worked. She pulled on the switch to start and ... nothing. I figured it's been 17 years for that set and they weren't the most expensive laundry appliances then so I guess we're finally shopping for a replacement. We spent last night poring over Web sites. But DW had a load already in the washer and wanted to give it one more try. I went downstairs with her. Still nothing. I unplugged it, thinking maybe it would do some sort of reset (though there's no display or anything but rotary switches on it). On a hunch, I tried the other outlet. Nothing. I plugged in something else and it didn't work either. The outlet was dead. A trip to the breaker box, flip the breaker, and we're washing again. DW has no idea why the breaker would have tripped. But I do.

We'll still shop for a replacement but now we have the time to save some money at it. Coming right on the heels of DD and DSiL buying a new washer because somehow a big hole appeared on the door gasket of their now-five-year-old machine and repairing it will cost over $300; well, maybe we should just offer someplace a volume buy!

While I will be more than $15,000 over my monthly budget for April, the new car is very fuel efficient. I am trying to hypermile and today hit a new record with it of 48.2 mpg. And no, it is not a hybrid.

Wow Jeppy, that is great mileage! DH's new vehicle gets better mileage than his last vehicle and takes regular gas instead of premium, but still it's only about 28 MPG.

Booked my first vaccine shot at a mall. I set it up for early in the morning well before the stores open and know I will want to go home after in case I have an adverse reaction. This way I will not be tempted to shop.

That's great! It took me several hours with my first shot before I started to feel the effects, so you have a good plan.
