    Thanksgiving in may

My sister and her wife were going to come for thanksgiving to see our new house. Then the recommendation to not travel due to covid happened so they postponed their trip. Originally until Christmas and then indefinitely because the case counts kept mounting. This week they finally are coming to visit. Thanksgiving will be this Saturday. SO is insisting that I get a rutabaga because that’s what his family always does. Everything else we’re making is the same as my family always did and pretty standard. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberries, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie. The only other nonstandard thing (in my mind at least) we’ll be doing is that my SIL likes cheddar cheese with her pumpkin pie. I’m curious what other people do. Any other family traditions that are nonstandard?

San Diego. They’ve been on a road trip across Arizona, New Mexico Utah and Nevada for the past six weeks in their rv. After here they are headed home.

Wait. Cheddar cheese on pumpkin pie? Why? How?

    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving reunion!
My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far today, I have finished two bags of M&Ms and a chocolate cake. I feel better already!

How nice, what a great idea!

We used to have Virginia ham for Thanksgiving, and it was a very complex undertaking involving buying the hams years earlier and hanging them in the attic and even moving them from house to house when we moved. Then there was the scraping off of the mold and the boiling of them. I remember my parents saying that people bought the ham when their daughter was born and then hung it and served it when their daughter was married.

I have no idea why. As for the how, literally a slice of cheddar cheese served on top of it.

It is great to hear of life gradually unfolding in good activities. Enjoy!

It's such a relief that this is almost over, and just in time for summer--hooray!

I mostly remember starving every Thanksgiving until late afternoon when I was ravenous and surly and unwilling to feel grateful for anything. I have good fasting chops now that it's too late, though. I have no idea why I didn't just eat something. We had the usual lackluster TG food.
