The camera's Alan mentioned above, can be wifi (so you don't have to get in the attic), and in some cases, don't need it. Eufy, I know has both. They have indoor camera's that record to a SD card, and they have indoor/outdoor camera's, that wirelessly send to a base station that records to a USB drive and can be hooked to your network.
The big issue with any of these type of camera's, is if someone breaks into your house, your camera's could just as easily be stolen, or the recording devices removed.
