    My county government used to, but at some point it was swapped for the day after Thanksgiving.

    It makes traffic lighter for those who don't have it off though (me always, never got Veteran's day off) so it's all good. Of course I'd rather have a day off duh, but an easier commute that day is also a welcome bonus.

    My dad always liked working the day after thanksgiving. He was one of maybe 30 people in a 3,000 person office who didn't take a vacation day that day. It was the only day of the year that he could just walk into the General who ran the place's office and have a casual conversation.

    Once I worked for the state I always got it off. My husband was a veteran and had to work. I told him I would enjoy it for him).
