    hiatal hernia questions

Has anyone here dealt with this issue? Had signs starting in 2014. Was diagnosed in 2017.
Before 2014 have and issues with breathing and gerd . after diagnosed, just took omeprazole and life went on. Now life had gotten harder as far is breathing. I have had a few tests and looks like my breathing issue is related to the fact of advanced hiatal hernia. And Occupational COPD due to screen printing back in the mid-1970's to mid 1980's due lack of respirators. masks, rubber gloves, eye wear. I have had respiratory issues since the early 80's, but nothing like this.
I have had 6 tests done and have two more to do... It looks like surgery is my future.
I can't live like this. I have never smoked (other than once in 6th grade) I didn't grow up with secondhand smoke either, or wood stove as my main heat

Anyone have this surgery? How well did it work for you?

I don’t have any experience with this personally or tangentially. But I just wanted to express my hope that whatever treatment plan you settle on works and you feel better soon.

I don't know of anyone with hiatal hernia issues. The anxiety surrounding health issues and medical decisions is often just as upsetting as the affliction itself IMO so I sympathize.

I'm sorry for what you are dealing with. DH and I are both former smokers, and he has a hiatal hernia but refuses to address it. I do think it adversely impacts his breathing and is getting worse, not better.

No experience with this, but wanted to wish you well with getting it all taken care of.

My aunt had this and never smoked or was exposed in any way. It was 30 years ago and surgery back then involved cracking open your chest so she ate a very bland diet with small meals and lived with it.

I do not have personal experience with hiatal hernia, but I am sure it can be the cause of much discomfort.

I understand that the timing of eating, specifically the interval between having a knosh and going to bed, can make a difference.
